Chapter 10 Awakened
“A portion of my shares. Consider it a reward for your hard work. Even if you divorce later, you will still be the Gilmore Family’s largest shareholder. This is the will your parents left behind.”
After saying that, they both headed off.
I smiled. My in–laws treated me well, they had given me a lot of warmth since my parents died.
I stayed with Victor all night, but he never woke up. I went to find a doctor. After he examined Victor, he said that his condition was normal. He also said that Victor might wake up in three days at the earliest and five days at the latest.
I squeezed my fingers. In this situation, the mission was only a few days away from Victor waking up. I had to take care of Rosemarie before he woke up, or she would think that I was a pushover.
I took out my cell phone and called my friend. He told me that he had found the wandering painter’s residence. But there were some tough guys outside his house and he didn’t dare to go in.
I let out a sigh of relief. The Hodge family had finally taken action. Despite being a family of wealth and prestige, they still held a sense of propriety.
The Hodge clan was the last of the wealthy clans and it seemed that they were starting to get anxious. They thought that with my parents dead, they had nothing to fear from the Mason clan.
I called the other Mason Family members and was confident that the wandering painter would return soon. After
settling everything, I headed back to the ward. I was looking at him and his voice sounded in my head.
“Where is my wife? Is she mad? I hope she’s not upset and wants to disown me.”
I looked at him in surprise, but he was still lying on the bed with his eyes closed. I walked over, dipped a cotton swab into the water and moistened his lips.
“Anne, my wife… Kiss me.”
My forehead wrinkled. He was conscious but, but not awake. What happened?
“Why I cannot move?”
Then his voice was gone.
I sat nervously on the edge of the bed, keeping my ears open. After a while, his voice came back.
“I don’t care, wake me up right no! My wife will be worried.”
Then there was no more sound.
My guess was that the system had a condition to wake him up, or the system was not allowing him to wake up. I started to get nervous, afraid that the system would hurt him.
Days turned into nights. Five days left. Victor still hadn’t woken up. Because I was too worried, I let the doctor know. The doctor came and checked and said everything was normal.
I wanted to say that something was wrong with Victor but if I said anything about me being able to hear the inside of his head or the system, they would either think I was crazy, or Victor would be hauled off to be dissected in a hidden government laboratory. It was all too far–fetched, after all.
Would he still like me if he woke up? I don’t know. There were too many things I didn’t know at the moment. One more day has passed.
Three more days. A friend called me early in the morning
“Anne, did you hear?”
“What’s wrong?” My voice is hoarse, the past few days have been hard on me. I haven’t been sleeping well, always on guard, listening to Victor’s thoughts in case he comes back.
“Mason brought reporters to the Hodge family house and now Rosemarie is a hot search all over the Internet.”
I’d never heard the name and asked, “Who’s Mason?”
“The wandering painter.” Answered the voice from the other side.

Anne, I want water.‘
My grip on the phone loosened and it fell to the ground. I turned around and found Victor sitting on the bed, looking at me with a cold stare.
“Why does she look so haggard? My heart hurts seeing her. Is it because she stayed up waiting for me? I must have worried her. This is all your fault, Get out of here! Oh, Anne, how could you be this messy?”
