Chapter 17 If She Know
On the following day, at 10:00 am, Abigail’s phone started buzzing. She checked who it was and completely dismissed It.
One of the workers at the construction site, Edmund Wright, was currently informing her about the current status of the construction, and she was noting down. everything he said.
It wasn’t until lunchtime that Abigall could catch her breath. She plopped down, took a sip of water, and then grabbed her phone.
There were 18 missed calls–all of which were from Stephen.
She chuckled softly, and just as she was about to call back, the 19th call came in.
“Hello?”
“Are you messing with me?” His voice, thick with rage, crackled through the phone, his forced calm barely masking his fury.
If he were standing in front of her at that moment, he would have likely ripped her to shreds.
Abigail said lightheartedly, “What’s it like to be on the receiving end of a game for once?”
He had regained his memory and could speak, yet he kept it from her and continued to act like his old self in front of her.
If she hadn’t discovered it, how long would he have kept pretending?
Did he perhaps mock her as she earnestly communicated with him through sign language?
Given his despicable deed, she felt that not retaliating wouldn’t have aligned with her character.
Heavy breathing could be heard from the other end of the phone, and the smile on Abigail’s lips gradually faded.
“I’ll agree to a divorce if you give me a 3000 square feet apartment and ten million. dollars. I’ll go to the courthouse when the deed’s in my name.”
With that, she immediately hung up the phone..
She had always dreamed of living in a spacious place, and had once believed that it would be a lifelong pursuit for two. Yet, at this moment, it was now unexpectedly
within reach through a simple divorce.
If she had known, she would have gone through it without hesitation. However, there was no point dwelling on what could have been.
With that in mind, Abigail distractedly ate her food and returned to her tasks.
In the CEO’s office of Deluxion Corporation Stephen let out a sardonic laugh when the call suddenly ended.
Had this woman gone mad? How could she be so bold as to mess with him?
However, the thought of her composed, nearly indifferent manner during their exchange sparked a wave of irritation within him.
She had never acted this way before
At that moment, Jamie knocked on the office door and walked in.
“Mr. Lockhart, I’ve compiled all the relevant information on these commercial properties. There was a worker injured during the initial construction phase and the family involved remains unhappy with the compensation. They’re still making a fuss to this day.”
Stephen took the documents and scanned their contents, his expression hardening.” Have the authorities been alerted?”
“There’s no point in involving the police. They’re simply causing trouble at the site everyday without causing any actual damage. Some reporters have gotten a whiff of the story, but I’ve kept it out of the press for now.”
“If they’re not satisfied with the compensation, keep negotiating. And in the meantime, identify their weak points,” Stephen said as he closed the file and tossed
it back to Jamie.
With that, he returned to his desk and continued handling work matters.
A sudden thought prompted him to ask, “What’s the status on Abigail?”
Jamie pondered briefly, then replied, “Ms. Lloyd clocked in at the office this morning but left shortly thereafter. She’s overseeing the commercial building project in the report earlier, so she’s likely gathering the data on–site at this moment.”
Upon hearing this, Stephen’s gaze turned steely, and he abruptly rose to his feet and
strode out of the office.

Meanwhile, at the construction site, Abigail, having eaten her sandwich, put on her hard hat and walked toward the site. However, at that moment, a group of people came rushing out from the left, aggressively heading toward her.
Someone from the group even threw a stone directly at Abigail.
Abigail’s pupils shrank in fear, and she instinctively evaded the projectile. In the end, the stone collided with her hard hat with a resounding thud.
If she hadn’t evaded it, the stone would have struck her face!
What was the deal with that group of people?
She turned and fled, knowing that she couldn’t stay there alone. They would undoubtedly make her the target of their fury.
She ran and shouted for help, but no one came to her aid at the construction site.
