Chapter 45 I’m Afrald That You’ll Polson Me
“Ah, what a surprise,” Abigail mocked as she glanced at Desmond.
Everyone directed their gazes at Desmond. Their faces were filled with disbelief.
“How could it have been you?”
“Why did you do that?”
“This project is so important to us. Why did you give the information away?”
First, it was disbelief. Soon after, everyone exploded with anger. They surrounded Desmond, who was about to leave. They all demanded an explanation from him.
Desmond hadn’t expected this to be exposed with such ease. At this moment, he was rendered completely bereft of speech.
Well, the evidence was right there. What else could he say?
Stephen stood tall on the other side of the window. His dark eyes were fixed on
Abigail. When he saw her pale face, his brows furrowed.
Jamie, who was standing beside him, remarked, “I didn’t think that she would have a camera at her desk.”
Stephen pursed his lips tightly. He turned around to leave.
Just then, Jamie shouted, “Ms. Lloyd has passed out!”
After resolving the huge problem, the tenseness within Abigail was suddenly released. The moment she relaxed, a chill spread across her body, making her frown.
As she got up to pour herself a glass of warm water, darkness overcame her, and she blacked out.
The crowd shouted. Everyone surrounded her to check on her.
However, before anyone could even touch her, Stephen made his way through the crowd and barged in. He picked her up from the ground and strode out of the office. Jamie, on the other hand, stayed behind to deal with the others.
The smell of disinfectant wafted into Abigail’s nose.
She opened her eyes slowly. Her world was still spinning, and she barely had any energy in her.
While she was in a daze, she suddenly heard a husky, male voice by her ear. “Here.
have some water.”
His tone was relaxed and warm. It wasn’t as frigid as it was before.
Abigail looked over to see Stephen standing by the side of her bed. His charming. face was expressionless. She couldn’t tell what he was feeling.
Abigail said, “Stephen, I’ve realized that I’ve been quite unlucky ever since I met you.”
Instantly, Stephen’s face became gloomy. He said, “Talk less if you’re not feeling well!
Abigail remarked, “See, you’re even raising your voice at a patient.”
Stephen replied, “You don’t seem like a patient at all. If I gave you a microphone, you’d still be able to go up on stage and give a speech right now.”
He had such a sharp tongue.
Abigail narrowed her eyes in exhaustion. “I’m thirsty.”
sin
Stephen leaned forward. He put his arm around her shoulders and helped her up. Then, he sat by her bed as he had her lean against his chest.
A fresh scent drifted toward Abigail, putting her in a daze once again. She really liked how he smelled.
In the past, she would always pester him for hugs and kisses. But, now…
Abigail tried her best to sit up straight. “I can help myself. What if Ms. Blue sees us and misunderstands this?”
Stephen knitted his brows together. “I should poison you and make you mute, Abigail.
She was already running a temperature. Didn’t her throat hurt? Why did she still have so much to say?
Abigail was speechless.
Stephen picked up a glass and put it by her lips. However, Abigail kept her pale lips tightly pursed.
“Didn’t you say that you were thirsty?”
Abigail said, “I’m afraid that you’d poison me,
Stephen was at a loss for words.
Suddenly, the atmosphere in the hospital ward became tense.
After a long while, Abigail leaned in and took a sip. “Oh, it wasn’t poisoned.”
She could clearly feel the gloominess of the man behind her. She could almost imagine the dark look on his face.
A twinkle of delight flashed across her clear eyes.
