Chapter 50 Can You Help Me?
Abigail froze in shock.
What was happening with Stephen? Was he in a confused state of mind?
Abigail struggled fiercely. Nevertheless, the great disparity in strength between a male and a female presented itself clearly at this time.
That brief struggle of hers invoked the ferocity within him. With one hand, he
grabbed both her wrists and pinned them at the top of her head.
From the corner of her lips, his heated breaths traveled downward. She felt a sudden coolness on her chest, followed by a fiery and moist sensation.
Abigail widened her eyes. “What the hell is wrong with you, Stephen?”
Wasn’t he unwell?
But, looking at how full of energy he was, he didn’t look like he was under the weather at all.
Or, did he mistake her for another woman?
Candace Blue?
At this thought, a pain stabbed through Abigail’s heart. She gathered up her strength and jabbed her knee upward.
Stephen stopped all that he was doing. The weight of his heavy body slumped right on top of her.
“Get off me!”
Abigail wiggled uncomfortably.
Stephen, on the other hand, sunk his teeth into her collarbone angrily. “Are your wanting to be a grass widow, Abigail?”
He knew who she was?
But…
“Are you out of your mind? We’re about to get divorced. Why would I be a grass widow?” Abigail’s breathing had become irregular.
“Get off me!” she repeated.
She only kneed him once, and it wasn’t a very powerful move. All she wanted was to
make him come to his senses.
Nevertheless, he didn’t get off her. He simply continued wrapping her in a shroud.
A moment later, she heard his raspy voice by her ear. “What are you doing here?”
Abigail replied, “That’s a question you should ask yourself. Why did you call me when you were meant to call Jamie?”
The air around them became silent again.
Abigail felt really uncomfortable to have both her hands pinned down like that. She squirmed, “Let go of me first.”
“Let go of you so that you can run away?”
Out of the blue, he uttered something so ridiculous.
Taken aback, Abigail probed, “Stephen, are you actually clear headed right now, or are you in a daze?”
Wasn’t he wanting to divorce her?
Didn’t he want to be there for Candace instead?
Why was he saying such ambiguously flirtatious words to her?
Did he know what the hell he was saying?
Stephen lifted his head. This time, Abigail got a good look at his dark eyes. They were bleak as before and had no sign of clarity in them. He was not in a clear state of mind.
“What actually happened to you?” Abigail frowned.
“I feel uncomfortable,” he uttered without warning. His voice also sounded deeper than usual.
Immediately after, he leaned in to her slowly as if he was testing the waters. He gave her a peck on the corner of her lips. “Can you help me?”
Abigail was staggered. Her heart raced.
While she was spacing out, he planted another kiss on her lips. “Hm?”
He kissed and asked her repeatedly, insisting on getting an answer.
Abigail should have rejected him.
She should have been resolute in getting up and walking away.
But…
They hadn’t finalized their divorce.
It wasn’t against the law to do what husbands and wives were meant to do.
Abigail’s lashes fluttered slightly. The next time he leaned in for another kiss, she tilted her head slightly and pressed her lips onto his.
In a way, that seemed to be her response. This time, Stephen did not pull away. Instead, he deepened the kiss.
The temperature of their breaths rose, and so did the temperature in the room.
Abigail closed her eyes and thought to herself. This was probably the last time she could indulge with him. In that case, she should just let it all go and relish in it.
At the very least, he was hers tonight.
The next day, Abigail opened her eyes at the break of dawn. Images of all that had happened last night rushed into her mind.
She pressed her lips tightly together.
She looked behind her and took a glance at Stephen, who was still sleeping soundly. She lifted the covers gently and quietly to get out of bed and leave.
To her surprise, she felt an arm being wrapped around her waist and pulling her right back into bed.
