Chapter 9 Love Your Wife
Abigail couldn’t help but chuckle at the scene before her. After recording the video, she called 911, and an ambulance quickly responded. As they made their way to the hospital, she took out the note and dialed the number listed on it.
After learning about Paige getting lost and hurt, the person on the other end of the line quickly responded, “Thank you for taking care of her. We’ll be there as soon as possible. Please continue to look after her for the time being.”
After Abigail agreed to it, Sasha Yarbrough ended the call and immediately dialed Stephen’s number.
“Hello?” Stephen answered the phone, sounding rather aloof.
“Stephen, your grandmother wandered off earlier and is now at the hospital. You’re closer, so could you please check on her? I’ll be there shortly.”
Stephen frowned and asked, “What happened?”
“I’m not so sure either, but please hurry over there.”
“Got it. I’m on my way.” Stephen hung up and went to the hospital.
At the hospital, Paige’s leg was diagnosed with a minor fracture that required hospitalization for recovery.
Paige held Abigail’s hand tightly, and her face was etched with pain as she said, “Oh, my dear granddaughter–in–law, it hurts so much.”
Abigail said helplessly, “Ma’am, I’m not your granddaughter–in–law.”
“You are too!” Paige insisted, throwing a bit of a tantrum as she continued, “I don’t care what you say! You’re my granddaughter–in–law!”
“Alright, alright. I’m your granddaughter–in–law, okay? Please calm down,” Abigail said. quickly, fearing that Paige would get too agitated and worsen her condition.
Paige finally smiled and said, “Why haven’t you visited me lately? You’re just like my grandson. You’re a couple of little scoundrels who never come to visit me!”
Abigail merely smiled in response and said nothing else.
At that exact moment, the door to the ward suddenly opened, and the two simultaneously looked toward it. As soon as she saw who it was, Abigail’s eyes widened in disbelief.
It was Stephen! What was he doing here?
“What brings you here?” Stephen asked with a frown as he looked at Abigail.
Before Abigail could respond, Paige reprimanded Stephen, saying, “You’d better watch your tone when you speak to my granddaughter–in–law, Stephen. You should treat your wife with love and respect! Apologize to her at once!”
Stephen was rendered speechless.
Meanwhile, Abigail chuckled, delighted to discover that Paige was Stephen’s grandmother.
She calmly looked at him, waiting to see how he would apologize to her.
Since their relationship had hit rock bottom, he had consistently treated her with disdain, as though she was the one who had initially wronged him when it was obviously his fault to begin with.
Stephen turned to Paige and said, “Grandma, I have something to discuss with her. You should get some rest.”
With that, he grabbed Abigail’s arm and walked out of the ward.
“Be nice to your wife, Stephen! Do you hear me?”
As the door to the ward closed, Stephen grabbed her arm and forcefully pulled her closer, his gaze sharp and unfeeling. “Although I can tolerate your behavior, isn’t it going too far to exploit an elderly woman suffering from Alzheimer’s?”
A jolt of pain shot through Abigail’s wrist, yet his cruel remark inflicted a far greater wound upon her heart.
“What the hell are you talking about?”
Stephen sneered and said, “You deliberately approached my grandmother to reveal your identity, right? You’re truly despicable! You’re actually willing to stoop to any level to avoid a divorce.”
Abigail laughed incredulously. He actually thought of her that way.
How could he still be so clueless about who she really was after a year together?
Although she felt very wronged, she held it back. She raised her chin defiantly and stated, “You’re right, I don’t want a divorce But I swear I had no idea that she was your grandmother!”
Stephen tightened his grip on her wrist and growled as he said, “Cut the act. If your didn’t tell her, why would she say that you’re her granddaughter–in–law?”
