Chapter 51 Desiring This Embrace
“Stay a while longer, Abbie.”
Abigail heard Stephen’s natural and affectionate tone of voice coming from behind. her. He even nuzzled the top of her head with his chin.
She froze.
This was how they used to spend time together.
When she used to wake up early in the mornings, this was how he behaved. Not only was he gentle and clingy, he would also say things like that.
Abigail lay in bed, stupefied. All of a sudden, she couldn’t tell if this was the present or if she was back in the past.
How could she differentiate between the both?
Whether it was the past or present, the one who uttered those words was Steve.
Sorrow filled her heart, making her feel terrible. Even so, she bit her finger and remained in bed.
She still desired being in this embrace.
She longed for his warmth, his scent, his everything.
She really wished that time could come to a stop at this moment. There would be no divorce, no Candace, and he wouldn’t be an heir of the Lockharts…
They would still be what they used to be.
When Abigail stirred once again, her gaze met with Stephen’s the moment she
opened her eyes. He seemed to have a faint smile in his eyes.
She paused. “Why are you looking at me like this?”
That was quite a frightening sight to wake up to.
In a low voice, Stephen asked, “What are you doing here?”
Abigail observed his face. “You don’t recall?”
He lifted his brow. “Recall what?”
Abigail sat up and gave a recount of last night in a calm voice.
T
Stephen took his phone and had a brief look at it. He said, “You’re saying that I dialed the wrong number. I called you?”
“That’s right.”
At that, Stephen handed his phone to her. “I called Jamie’s number.”
Abigail furrowed her brows, She looked toward the screen of his phone and saw that his most recent call was indeed with “Jamie Sanders“.
How could this be?
Abigail widened her eyes slightly. She reached out for his phone so that she could take a closer look at it. Stephen, however, put his phone away.
“So, why did you come here?”
He even did a quick scan of the bed with his gaze.
A lump rose in Abigail’s throat, making her feel suffocated and uneasy.
“Did you think that I missed you so much in the middle of the night that I came over to see you?”
Unexpectedly, a look of slight consideration actually came across Stephen’s charming face. A moment later, he nodded. I wouldn’t rule that out.”
Abigail chuckled coldly without holding herself back. “You’re such a narcissist.”
Following that, she picked up her own cell phone. She clicked into her call record so that she could show it to him. In the end, she realized that her call history was blank!
“Did you touch my phone?”
Immediately, she looked toward him with a look of disbelief in her
eyes.
“I didn’t,” Stephen denied right away. “Actually, there’s nothing to feel bad about admitting to it, Abigail. We’re still married. You have needs. It’s also absolutely normal for you to come to me.
Hah.
He had got to be the one who deleted the call history.
He had to be!
Abigail clenched onto her phone. With an expressionless look on her face, she said, ” Since it’s something you mind, fine. I won’t come to you when I need it the next time.”
Upon saying that, she got out of bed to leave.
Stephen’s face fell. He grabbed her by the wrist and trapped her right beneath him. ” Who would you go to then?”
Abigail tried to free herself but failed to do so. Ultimately, she simply lay on her back.
She looked into his eyes and answered mockingly, “We’re about to get divorced. Who I go to isn’t any of your business, is it, my soon–to–be ex–husband?”
The nonchalance in Stephen’s eyes disappeared gradually. The provocation in her eyes ignited a ball of fury within him.
She wanted to find another man?
How could she do that?
Suddenly, he leaned forward and kissed her rather fiercely on the lips.
Abigail didn’t dodge. Instead, she stared at him calmly as she allowed him to kiss her
as he wished.
