Chapter 56 Promises Are Bullshit
Abigail looked in Stephen’s direction. Feeling perplexed, she asked, “What’s this?”
Stephen explained, “You are my wife. People are going to think that I’m mistreating you if they see you dressed so plainly.
He took out a pair of earrings and said to her, “Come here.”
Who wouldn’t like diamonds?
As Abigail got to her feet, she asked, “Are they mine?”
“Yeah.”
Stephen answered briefly. At the same time he took notice of the twinkle in her eyes.
Abigail quickened her steps and walked to his side. She extended her hand and said, “I got it.”
However, Stephen said, “There are no mirrors for you to look into here.”
As he said that, he reached out and swept her hair aside. Then, he lowered himself to put her earrings on for her.
The diamond earrings were teardrop–shaped. The perfectly–cut diamonds shone brightly under the light. They were absolutely dazzling!
Abigail’s dainty earlobes were slightly pink. Stephen put an earring on for her with ease. He gave her earlobe a slight lingering pinch before picking up the other earring to put it on for her.
There was minimal distance between them. She could almost feel his breath on her skin. It was rather warm and it tickled her.
Soon enough, he had put her earrings on for her. Next, would be the necklace.
Stephen didn’t step back. Instead, he remained really close to her. With the necklace in his hands, he reached his hands to the back of her neck rather than making his way behind her. He leaned in closer to her.
It was as if she was encircled by his arms and fully enveloped by Deep down, Abigail was quite unsettled.

Her eyelashes fluttered as she tried her best to calm herself down.
For the sake of this set of jewelry, she had to keep it in!
After putting the necklace on for her, Stephen retracted his hands. As he stood back upright, his lips brushed across her cheek.
Abigail lifted her eyes immediately. She looked at him with a displeased gaze. “You’re quite a crafty person, Stephen.”
Stephen stared at her with a gloomy look in his eyes. “How so?”
Abigail scoffed. “In order to kiss me, you put these accessories on for me…
Smugly, she tilted her chin upward slightly and shot him a look, as if telling him that she was already onto him.
Stephen chuckled softly. He lowered himself out of the blue and planted a smacker on her lips.
Then, he took a step back. “Do I need a reason to kiss you?”
Abigail was stunned. She stared at him in disbelief.

They were about to get divorced!
Didn’t he feel that he was being an asshole by doing that?
Abigail pressed her lips together. In a flash the look on her face turned cold. “Let’s go.”
Stephen said, “You haven’t put on your ring.”
Abigail took a glance at the diamond ring. Sorrow flashed across her eyes. “Do you remember what you said to me last time?”
Stephen froze.
He didn’t want to recall it, but that memory came to mind spontaneously.
After they got back from registering their marriage, he promised her that he would give her a real diamond ring in the future. He would have it cut into a shape that she liked, and that their initials would be engraved on the inside of the ring’s shank, as a representation of his lifetime of love for her.

be able to keep your promise?” Abigail asked in a soft voice. Immediately after, she looked away. “I shall not wear the ring. It’s too excessive.” By this time, she had already opened the door. She walked out of the room. Stephen’s joyful mood from earlier dropped back down again.

The atmosphere in the car was strange.
Abigail looked out the window. The expression on her face was calm once again.
She simply lost control of her emotions earlier. Now that she thought about it, she felt that it was quite nonsensical.
They were already getting divorced soon. So, what did she bring up those things for?
Promises… were simply bullshit.
She had actually believed him. How ridiculous.
