Chapter 60 Call the Cops
The butler’s face became gloomy. “If you refuse to comply, I’ll have reason to believe that you stole the pearl earrings. So…”
“Do you have any proof?” Abigail asked in a straightforward manner.
The butler answered, “You were the last person to leave Ms. Graham’s room. You are the most likely suspect…”
“Do you have any proof?” Abigail repeated her question. A look of frigidity came across her beautiful eyes.
The people surrounding them all looked toward Abigail with a scornful look in their
eyes.
“Isn’t she Stephen Lockhart’s wife?”
“What in the world? She’s just an average person who happened to get married to Stephen when he lost his memory. When she found out who he really was, she wasn’t willing to divorce him.”
“It’s no wonder that she would steal Ms. Graham’s pearl earrings. Women like this are disgusting!”
The butler frowned. “Since you’re refusing to cooperate, don’t blame me for being crass. Search her!”
The few helpers reached out toward Abigail right away.
Just at this moment, a deep and husky voice asked, “What’s going on?”
The crowd’s chatter was silenced in a flash.
Stephen walked toward them. He glared at the butler and asked, “What did you just say?”
“Mr. Lockhart.
The moment the butler saw him, he put on a more respectful attitude.
“Ms. Graham’s pearl earrings went missing, I checked the surveillance footage and found that this woman was the last person to come out from Ms. Graham’s room.
So
Stephen’s tone of voice became colder than before. “Shouldn’t you call the cops if something was lost?”

An astonished look came across the butler’s face. Stephen was too overbearing that it made him feel pressured.
“Mr. Lockhart, this business dinner party cannot be held up by something like this. That’s why I didn’t call the police.”
Stephen, however, took his phone out and called the cops without any hesitation.
Upon seeing that, the butler was stunned. “Mr. Lockhart, you…”
Stephen said, “You’re welcome.”
The butler was speechless.
What gave him the idea that he was about to thank him?
He was on the brink of tears. This wasn’t the task that he was given!
The cops were about to arrive. What was he going to do?
Abigail looked at the man who was standing right in front of her. The heaviness in her heart weighed down on her even more.
A brief smile flashed across her face, only to disappear just as quickly.
He probably only stepped forward to defend her because she was here as his wife, right?
His reputation was still very important.
If he really cared about her, how could he have been so indifferent when she was targeted at that birthday party on the cruise previously?
She needed to wake up.
He was a cold–hearted man.
She should’ve realized this sooner.
The police arrived not long after. The place was extremely quiet as they conducted. their search and gathered evidence for their investigation on the scene. They carried out their procedures in an organized manner.
Soon enough, an officer came out from Alana’s room and reported, “We found the earrings.”
The butler was surprised. He quickly asked, “Where did you find the earrings, Officer?”
The officer explained, “It was in one of the formal dresses. Since it’s such a precious item, it should be kept properly. Don’t misplace it and put the suspicion on others. It

would be too unfair for that innocent person.
Having been rebuked, the butler could only nod repeatedly and say, “You’re right. I understand.”
After the item was found, the cops left. Even so, the party was still as quiet as before.
The butler wiped the cold sweat off his forehead and said, “It turned out to be a misunderstanding. I’m really sorry to have bothered everyone.”
Once he said that, he turned around to leave.
“Hold up,” Stephen ordered in a distant voice from behind him.
The butler froze. He looked toward him and asked, “How else may I help, Mr. Lockhart?”
Stephen stared at him with a frosty gaze. “Apologize to my wife!”
