Chapter 63 Part Ways Amicably
“If you don’t want to go out, then just stay at home,” Stephen said before getting up and heading toward his room.
Abigail slammed her fork onto the table in frustration. She had lost her appetite entirely.
Why couldn’t they just talk things out calmly? It was driving her crazy!
Just then, her phone rang. She took a deep breath to calm herself and saw that it was a call from Eloise.
*Abbie, where are you?” Eloise’s lazy voice came through the line.
“Leuv,” Abigail replied.
“Oh, Leuv is a good place. I’ve heard the church there is quite nice. Why not pray for some fortune while you’re there? And could you pray for me too? Hehe.”
Abigail’s eyes lit up. “Sure, I’ll stay another day then.”
“I miss you. Come back soon,” Eloise said.
“Okay,” Abigail agreed, and the call ended quickly.
Stephen soon emerged, and Abigail stood up to say, “I want to go to the church.”
Stephen looked at her with an inscrutable gaze. “Should I come with you?”
“Sure.” Abigail nodded.
Stephen gave a hum of acknowledgement and led the way.
It seemed he didn’t have much to do today. Once in the car, he drove wherever she asked.
Since it wasn’t a workday, many people were heading to the church to pray. As they reached the base of the mountain, they began their hike up.
Stephen glanced at her and asked, “Why the sudden interest in the church?”
Abigail replied, “I’m hoping God will help me get rid of jerks.”
Stephen was speechless upon hearing that. He stopped in his tracks.
Abigail had climbed up several steps before realizing he wasn’t following. She turned
back and asked with a wry smile, “Aren’t you coming?”
Stephen asked, “What makes you think I’m a jerk?”
Abigail laughed at his question. “Aren’t you? Our marriage was fine until your
memory came back, and then you wanted to divorce me to be with another woman. Isn’t that enough of a jerk move?”
Stephen’s lips tightened into a straight line. After a long pause, he said, “You saw that she lost a leg saving me back then.
“Oh, so should we just finalize the divorce now?”
Why drag it out? Wouldn’t it be better to get it over with?
Stephen looked at her with a heavy gaze before finally saying, “We’ll settle it when we get back.”
Abigail looked at him. “Can I believe your words?*
“If I don’t say anything, you still wouldn’t believe me, Stephen replied.
Ha! At least he had some self–awareness.
Abigail said flatly, “Stephen, we should part ways amicably.”
With that, she turned and continued up the path. She still intended to pray. Her desire for fortune was sincere.
As she climbed, Stephen watched her retreating figure, feeling a complex mix of emotions.
By the time they left the church, it was already afternoon.
Abigail got into the car and texted Eloise. “I’ve prayed for you and even asked for a cross pendant. I’ll bring it back.”
Eloise replied, “Mwah! Love you the most!”
Seeing that, Abigail smiled. Just then, the car jolted. Her phone slipped from her hand, and she instinctively looked up, only to realize that the car was speeding up.
“W–What’s happening?” she asked nervously.
As they approached a sharp turn, not only did Stephen not slow down, but he actually sped up.
“Stephen, when I said part ways amicably, I didn’t mean this! I’m still young! I don’t want to die yet! Calm down!” Abigail was in shock.
