Chapter 74 Being Targeted
Abigail walked for nearly an hour before she managed to hail a cab. After giving the driver her address, she stared out the window.
The night was deep, and the streets were empty.
The driver glanced at her and suddenly asked, “Miss, why are you out walking alone. this late at night? It’s not safe.”
Abigail snapped out of her thoughts. She looked at the driver and noticed that he was wearing a hat and a mask, showing only his eyes. It gave her an uneasy feeling.
“I had an argument with my husband. He’ll catch up with me soon,” she replied.
“It’s just a couples fight. Why did you run out like this? What if you encounter a bad person?” the driver said.
Abigail smiled. “Thank you for your concern. I’ll be more careful next time.”
The driver smiled and didn’t say anything more.
Abigail remained vigilant until the car reached her neighborhood. The driver then asked, “Which building do you live in? I can drop you right at the door so you don’t
have to walk.”
“No need, thank you,” Abigail replied.
Yet the driver insisted. “It’s no trouble. I’ll take you.
Abigail felt her suspicion grow. Just then, her phone rang.. Hello? Yes, I’m here. Come down and get me.”
As she said that, she opened the car door and got out.
Seeing this, the driver drove away without further comment.
answered it quickly.”
Once the driver was gone, Abigail let out a breath of relief. “Eloise, it’s fine now.”
She had texted Eloise when the driver started talking to her.
“Why are you coming back alone this late at night? Where’s that scumbag ?” Eloise asked.
“Since he’s a scumbag, how can you expect him to do anything decent?” Abigail said, walking inside.
After a curse, Eloise said, “Fine, I’ll come over to keep you company.”

“No need,” Abigail said. “We’re getting divorced tomorrow. After it’s done, I’ll call you, and we can go check out the new place.”
Eloise was silent for a moment before saying, “I thought your trip to Leuv might have improved things between you two.”
Abigail gave a silent laugh as she entered her building. “Alright, I’m hanging up now.”
“Okay. Call me if anything comes up.”
“Alright.”
Abigail hung up and entered the elevator.
However, as the doors were about to close, a hand suddenly reached in. The sensor was triggered, and the doors opened again.
The sudden appearance of another person in the quiet night startled Abigail.
It was a man. He was wearing a hat and mask with his head lowered, making it impossible to see his face.
Abigail’s heart raced. The driver had worn the same disguise.
She didn’t press the button for her floor right away and fiddled with her phone instead.
The man waited for a moment. Noticing that she hadn’t pressed a floor number, he reached out and pressed 10. Abigail glanced at him and then pressed 18.
Actually, she lived on the 21st floor.
As the elevator doors slowly closed, the man suddenly canceled the 10th floor and pressed the button for the 17th floor.
Abigail’s lips tightened as she pulled up the phone’s dial screen, entering just three digits.
In this situation, she hoped that calling the police would help.
They soon arrived on the 17th floor. The man stepped out but turned to look at her. just as the doors were about to close.
That glance sent a chill down Abigail’s spine. His eyes were filled with a sinister, murderous intent. She felt és if she were being watched by a venomous snake.
When the elevator doors finally shut and cut off the man’s view, Abigail’s face was as pale as a sheet of paper.

Stephen instinctively bent down to pick it up. He frowned when he found that it wouldn’t turn on.
“I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to. Did I break your phone? I’ll buy you a new one,” Candace. said, looking remorseful.
But Stephen was thinking about why Abigail had called him. He turned to the private nurse. “Can I borrow your phone?”
“Sure.” The nurse handed it to him.
Stephen opened the dial screen. He thought that he didn’t know Abigail’s number, but the next second, a string of digits appeared in his mind. He dialed it immediately.
However, the call connected to an automated message. “The number you’ve dialed is busy…”
What was going on? Was she still trying to call him?
“Stephen?” Candace’s voice interrupted his thoughts..
“Have the nurse help you. I have to go.” Ignoring Candace, he left the room.
“Stephen!” Candace sat up, and the movement tugged at her stitches, causing her to wince in pain.
Stephen didn’t look back as he walked away. Noticing that, Candace’s expression
darkened.
Was he going back to Abigail?
Candace gripped the bed sheets tightly, and her gaze grew colder.
As the call ended, Abigail felt the loud voices in her head vanish.
Her face twisted in self–mockery. How ridiculous! She had foolishly gambled on whether she or Candace was more important to Stephen.
The slap of reality stung.
Now, she had completely lost hope.
