Chapter 79 I Don’t Want a Divorce Anymore
Abigail looked at Stephen as if he had told a joke. “Stephen, just listen to yourself!”
She couldn’t believe that he had the audacity to confront her.
Stephen’s eyes darkened, and the atmosphere grew oppressive. The air felt like
had frozen, with the cold wind cutting through like ice.
Facing his brooding expression, Abigail asked with a trace of mockery, “Does Candace know you’re out here looking for me?”
Such double standards! How was that fair?
Stephen’s voice was cold as he said, “You know about my situation with her and the reasons for our divorce. But what’s with you and Hugh?”
Abigail’s temper flared. “What does it have to do with you?”
Her clear eyes blazed with anger. “Stephen, it’s almost dawn. You might as well stay and go to the courthouse together. We’re getting divorced today!”
When her life was on the line, her mind was still filled with thoughts of him. She felt like she was beyond saving.
And now, he was making all these accusations just because she was with Hugh. How ridiculous!
Stephen’s expression grew even darker. “Are you that eager to get a divorce? What then? Are you going to marry him right away? Abigail, do you think he’d want a woman who’s been married before?”
Abigail, unable to tolerate it any longer, slapped him across the face.
“Stephen, I haven’t wronged you!” she screamed. “I don’t owe you anything! How can you say such things? If you had any conscience at all, you wouldn’t have dragged out the divorce and put me in danger!”
Her pent–up emotions erupted, and tears streamed down her face.
The fear from being followed had overwhelmed her, and she was still shaken.
What if Hugh hadn’t shownup in time? What if…
She couldn’t bear to think about it.
Yet, after surviving, she received not his concern but his accusations and suspicion.

How dare he? What right did he have to accuse her?
Abigail gasped for air, nearly fainting from the intensity of her emotions.
Stephen pressed his tongue against his cheek and squinted his eyes. When he saw Abigail cry so pitifully, his heart clenched suddenly, as if gripped by a large hand.
“Are you afraid I’ll drag you down?” he asked coldly.
Abigail wiped her tears. “Yes, I value my life, and being with you is too dangerous for me.”
Stephen’s face grew even darker, and his eyes were shadowed with a heavier gloom. The chilling air around him seemed almost tangible, lowering the temperature around them.
He grabbed her wrist and suddenly smiled. “Since you’re so scared, I’ve decided that I don’t want a divorce anymore.”
Abigail was stunned. “What did you say?”
He stared at her intently. “You said that anyone who’s with me is in danger. Candace lost a leg saving me. I can’t let her risk her life, so Abigail, I don’t want a divorce. anymore.”
“You’re shameless!” Abigail’s face was flushed with rage. She tried to strike him again, but he held her wrist firmly.
“From now on, you’d better stay away from Hugh. I won’t be pleased if I see you with him,” Stephen said coldly. He then released her and got into his car before driving
away.
