Chapter 98 Not the Relief She Expected
After the female officer left the room, Stephen approached Abigail and said, “Ryan is one of my people.”
Abigail’s eyes widened in surprise. “You sent him to follow me? Are you a creep?”
Frustrated, Stephen frowned deeply. “He made a mistake and caused me to
misunderstand you. That’s why he came to apologize.”
Stephen hadn’t expected Ryan to apologize directly without revealing who he was. Abigail had been quite understanding not to call the police on him.
Abigail asked, “What mistake did he make?”
Stephen explained the events of that night. Abigail nodded in understanding. “Oh.”
Stephen asked, “So how do you want to resolve this?”
Abigail suddenly laughed.
Stephen asked, “What’s so funny?”
Abigail replied, “If he can apologize for his mistakes, what about you?”
Stephen’s expression faltered. His throat bobbed as he swallowed, and his gaze became dark and inscrutable. The air in the narrow room felt heavy and tense.
Abigail tightened her grip on the paper cup, causing it to slightly deform.
Just when Abigail thought Stephen wouldn’t apologize, he said, “Sorry.” Seemingly worried that she might not be satisfied, he added, “Abigail, I was wrong about you. I’m sorry.”
Abigail’s tension eased slightly, but the apology didn’t bring her the relief she expected. His forced apology wasn’t the same as what she had hoped for.
“Forget it,” Abigail said as she stood up and set the cup aside. “Tell your people to stay out of my sight.”
With that, she walked past him and out of the room.
Stephen watched her with a heavy gaze before leaving the police station. As he exited the police station, Ryan was already being released. Ryan stood in the corner with his head lowered, looking like a chastised child.
Stephen coldly warned, “If this happens again, you won’t see me again.”

“I promise it won’t happen again,” Ryan replied.
Stephen exited the police station and saw Abigail already quite far ahead. She was close to Maplewood Residence, and it would take her less than ten minutes to walk
back.
Stephen’s gaze remained fixed on her until she turned a corner.
Ryan followed behind Stephen in silence. Then, he suddenly asked, “Mr. Lockhart, do you still have feelings for Ms. Blue?”
Stephen asked, “Why are you so curious?”
Ryan fell silent. He didn’t understand what Stephen meant.
When Abigail finally arrived back at Maplewood Residence, she felt a wave of relief. The past few days had been stressful and had caused her to lose weight. She needed to treat herself to something good.
It was already late at night when she came out of the kitchen. She turned on the TV, planning to sit on the carpet and enjoy some snacks while watching a variety show.
Just then, her phone buzzed with a new message. She picked it up and was instantly
shocked.
The color drained from her face as she saw a horrifying photo–a bloodied, mangled corpse. Overwhelmed by the violent image, she gagged and covered her mouth.
As the nausea subsided, a chilling fear took hold. She couldn’t figure out who had sent the disturbing photo or why.
Abigail forced herself to stay calm and dialed Stephen’s number immediately.
