Abigail turned around. “Grandma, he’s bullying me again.” Paige raised her hand and struck Stephen without any hesitation.
Stephen’s face remained cold and indifferent. His gaze on Abigail was sharp enough to bore holes through her.
“Stephen, you never learn your lesson. If you bully your wife again, I’ll tell her to leave you!” Paige scolded.
Stephen closed his eyes, suppressing his emotions.
Meanwhile, Abigail smiled triumphantly and then turned to Paige. Grandma, are you tired? Do you feel sleepy?”
Paige shook her head. “No. I still want to play.” But as she said this, she yawned.
Seeing this, Abigail immediately said, “How about we go to your room? I can tell you a story.”
“Okay,” Paige agreed immediately at the mention of a story. Abigail walked over and nudged Stephen aside before pushing the wheelchair toward the small building.
Stephen watched her back. His eyes were dark and brooding.
“Stephen,” Candace said as she approached. Her voice was muffled.
Stephen turned around and saw her red eyes, which were clearly from her crying. “What happened?”
Candace gave a bitter smile. “Nothing. I just didn’t expect Grandma to treat me like a helper. understand that she’s ill and doesn’t

“We knew each other first. If it weren’t for that car accident, we’d bet

Stephen’s frown deepened. “Caddy, don’t overthink it. It’s just not the right time yet.”
Candace was on the verge of tears as she asked, “When will it be the right time? She treats me like a helper. Will more people think I’m someone without a proper status in the future?”
Stephen’s gaze grew colder, though his voice remained gentle. “She doesn’t think that way, and she wouldn’t dare. Her only purpose is to
protect you.”
Candace hesitated a hint of doubt in her eyes. “Really?”
“Yes.” Stephen’s strikingly handsome face remained as calm and distant as ever, betraying no other emotion.
“I’ve just returned to the Lloyd family. Many people are watching me. Keeping a distance from me is the safest for you.”
Cadence broke into a smile and threw herself into his arms. “Stephen, I knew it. I knew you cared about me. I misunderstood you. I’m sorry.”
Stephen stiffened, instinctively pushing her away. “I’m going to check on Grandma.” As he turned, he saw Abigail standing not far away. Her eyes were cold and clear as she watched him.
