Chapter 116 I Can Live Without You
Stephen froze. He raised his hand to wipe away the tears on Abigail’s face, but she dodged it.
She reached up and wiped her face haphazardly. “Don’t touch me.”
Stephen’s Adam’s apple bobbed up and down as he stared at her intently. “Abigail, you…”
He seemed like he wanted to say something, but the words got stuck in his throat. He just continued to stare at her. He felt a suffocating pain in his chest as he looked at the grievance and sadness in her eyes. He felt confused and panicked.
Abigail sniffled. “Stephen, let’s get a divorce, okay? With so many capable people around you, you can definitely take care of Candace. I just want a peaceful life. I can live without you.”
Hearing that, he pressed his lips together. If she was no longer in his life, what would happen?
Suddenly, flashes of little things they had experienced together over the past year appeared in his mind. Abigail was innocent. But was she really as innocent as she seemed on the surface?
When she found out about his identity, why didn’t she agree to divorce?
Stephen gradually suppressed the emotions surging in his eyes. He straightened up and closed the door. The cold wind blew through anyway, dispersing his chaotic thoughts. Calmness returned to his face.
Opening the driver’s door, Stephen started the car. His voice was low, yet his tone was tepid and distant. You’ve taken the money for this month. So, let’s get through this month first.”
Abigail looked at him, saying, “I’ll transfer the money back to you now. Then, we can proceed with the divorce.” She took out her phone to make the transfer, only to realize she didn’t have 500,000 dollars at all. She had spent a lot of money on clothes for Hugh.
She was at a loss for words for a moment. Noting her silence, Stephen glanced at her..
She sniffled. “Next month, then…”
For some reason, he let out a sigh of relief.
The car then fell into a quiet silence. After a while, Stephen asked, ” Where do you wanna go?”
Abigail muttered, “Maplewood Residence.” Stephen didn’t say anything more and drove straight to Maplewood Residence.
They soon arrived at the entrance of the residential area, but he didn’t drive the car in. Instead, he stopped the car and didn’t look at her. Taking out a cigarette, he lit it.
Abigail glanced at him, furrowing her brows. She wanted to say something, but she held back. She then got out of the car and walked straight inside.
Stephen’s deep and dark gaze followed her. The smoke obscured his face, hiding the look in his eyes.
Just then, his phone rang. Taking it out, he saw that it was a call from Justin.
“Hello?”
Justin sounded like he was speaking with a smile on the other end. Stephen, I’m back. Aren’t you coming to welcome me or prepare a sumptuous reception for me?”
Stephen’s tone was tepid and distant as he replied, “You’re back just

in time.”
“What do you mean?” Justin asked.
“Just wait and see.” Stephen finished speaking and hung up the phone directly.

Night fell. Abigail returned home and got ready to sleep. If she didn’t sleep, she’d just torment herself to death.
She glanced at the time and saw that it was already 8:00 pm. She picked up her phone to order takeout, but after browsing, she decided not to: She’d cook something herself.
Just then, the doorbell rang, startling her. Who would come at this late hour?
Thinking of her previous experiences, Abigail picked up a baseball bat and cautiously approached the door. She looked through the
peephole.
